Fort Worth was once a bustling cattle trading industry around 19th century when it was part of the cattle drives of Chisholm trail. The city was founded in 1849 as an army outpost and was located on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River. These past events were what gave Fort Worth it name of cow town and to this day it still maintains it western heritage. Today Ft Worth is a modern city with several universities like TCU and A&M university, top ranted museums like the Kimbell Art Museum and the Amon Carter of American Museum, several fortune 500 companies like Bell Hellicopter, Lockheed Martin, American Airline, Pier 1, to name a few. dsc08861

Fort Worth is the fifth largest city in Texas and the second largest in DFW Metro area. Orginally Fort Worth was a army outpost located along the bluff of the Trinity river but today it is now a modern city with many excellent museums like the Kimbell Art Museum. The city did retain some of it western history and they are in full display at the Stockyard where you can see the walk of honor with stars for many western figures like Wyatt Earp and Buffalo Bill Cody and the cowboy hall of fame. Now the area is mostly a western theme for shopping and dinning with that old timey historic feel theme shopping.

Cattle Drive at StockYards –  Another capture of the longhorn being hearded down the street at the Cattle Drive Stockyard in Fort Worth. The Fort Worth Stockyards now celebrates Fort Worth’s long tradition as a part of the cattle industry with a cattle drive down the street as they would of done back in the day. The city has long been known as a cow town probably because of the Stockyards. The Fort Worth Stockyard is now listed on the National Register as a historical district since 1976. The Stockyards consist of mainly entertainment and shopping venues today that capitalize on the ‘Cowtown’ theme of Fort Worth. The Leddy boot company is located in the heart of the Stockyard along with the Maverick Fine Western wear. Also there saloons where customers ‘can ‘belly up’ to the bar, relax and have a cold beer while in the Stockyards; just like they did in the days of the cattle drives. Many bars and nightclubs are located in the vicinity, and the area has a Western motif. There is also an opry and a rodeo. The Fort Worth Stockyards are the last standing stockyards in the United States. On April 1, 2011, the Fort Worth Stockyards Stables were remodeled and reopened. They are located next door to the Hyatt hotel in an original Historic Stockyards building that was built in 1912. These stables offer full care boarding, overnight boarding, hourly boarding, horse rentals on the open trails of the Trinity River and carriage rides. Boarders can ride their horses all around the Historic Stockyard

Best Fall Images in the Texas Hill Country at Garner State Park and Concan Texas

Check out these seasonal fall colors among the trees along the Frio river in the Texas Hill Country. These images were taken in Concan and Garner State Park in the Texas hill country along the Frio river as the leave were changing colors on the maple and cypress trees last year. Concan is a small community in Uvalde County in the southwestern portion of the Hill Country of Texas. It sits along the Frio River close to Garner State Park. Every year it is a popular spot for summer vacationers. Garner State Park is located in the community of Concan,Texas. Garner State Park, is the most popular state park in Texas for vacationers. If you want to get one of the cabins or shelters here you better make your reservation early or you might now be able to get one. Even for campers the park fills up during peak season before noon on many days. As a child we went there almost every year for three weeks every summer and they were some of the best vacation times in my memory. The park has lots to do in the area you can swim, kayak, paddle boat, hike, bird watch, horseback riding, bike or explore the area around the park. One of the most popular thing that draw the locals to the park is the nightly dances at the pavillion beginning in the spring and summer. You don’t need to stay in the park there are plenty of other places in Concan to camp or stay along the Frio River but again if you plan a vacation there in the summer peak season you better plan it early to make your reservation. The word Frio is the Spanish word for cold, so keep that in mind before you jump in to the river. The Frio river is to me one of the pretties rivers with it clear emerald waters in Texas.

Austin Lake Travis Oasis Sunset

We captured this panorama of an Austin Oasis restaurant and sunset at Lake Travis. The restaurant is located in far west Austin at the foothills of the Texas Hill Country on Lake Travis. The Oasis restaurant likes to promote itself as the “Sunset Capital of Texas” with it decks facing west for maximum sunset views. The restaurant sit on a bluff about 450 feet over the lake overlooking the big bowl at the lake. Lake Travis is part of the Highland lakes, after Mansfield dam was built in 1942 it became the largest reservoir for water storage creating the largest area of water where the Oasis overlook is. The Oasis restaurant is popular with locals and tourist and it not uncommon to find buses lined up in the parking lot. It has become a destination for people traveling in this area of the Hill Country to visit to capture a peak at the sunset. Most people who live in Austin will tell you The sunsets view from this location are great anytime of the year. The Oasis restaurant has been here for thirty years, but in 2005 a lightning fire destroyed parts of the structure but it was back in business about two weeks later over time the portion that had burn down was re-built and expanded for maximun sunset views. This Lake is one of the largest reservoir of water along the Highland lakes. http://www.beecreekphoto.com/blog/sunset-lake-travis/

Oasis Sunset Panorama – Another captured of the Oasis sunset panorama outside of Austin  at the Oasis restaurant at Lake Travis. The restaurant is located in far west Austin at the foothills of the Texas Hill Country on Lake Travis. The Oasis restaurant likes to promote itself as the ‘Sunset Capital of Texas’ with it decks facing west for maximum sunset views. We have taken many sunset images from the Oasis on Lake Travis and this is my favorite.  Every scenic sunset image we have capture from here is unique and today was not the exception. The Oasis Restaurant sits on a bluff 450 feet over the lake has some of the best decks to view the sunsets around central Texas. Oasis restaurant has been here for thirty years over looking the big bowl at Lake Travis.  In 2005 a lightning strike cause parts of the restaurant to catch on fire and almost burn down completely.  Only parts of the restaurant were destroyed and it reopen a few weeks later but the older wooden part were eventually replaced with the newer buildings along with a parking garage.  This newer parts including shops, cafes, and other restaurants many of which have great views also.  In any case the Oasis is a great place to come and have a meal and margarita and watch the sunset on any day. Just another beautiful panorama sunset in the Texas hill country over looking Lake Travis. Lake Travis is loccated on the western edge of Austin at the foothills of the Texas Hill Country.  Lake Travis is the largest reservoir along the highland lakes in Texas is a very popular spot for swimming, boating, fishing, scuba diving, and picnicking.
