Stormy Austin Skyline Night – Austin Skyline Night capture from the boardwalk was a stunning site with these great refections in the lake and a little of the blue hour left to make it interesting. This Austin skyline includes the latest edition with the tallest high rise in the city the new Independent or Jingle as some call it for it unique style. We had been waiting till the light came on the tops of the Independent building to get this shot of the city. I was getting ready to pack it up from my position on the boardwalk when I could see these storm clouds pushing in to the view of the city skyline with a lot of lightning yet no wind as of yet so the buildings reflection could still be seen in Lady Bird Lake for a awesome catch which rarely happens. When it comes to Austin Lady Bird Lake there is almost always someone on the water or even ducks to mess up a perfect reflection but tonight we got lucky. In any case Austin has one of the best skyline in Texas day or night. The hike and bike trail along town lake is busy most of the time day or night.

The locals also refer to this time as the blue hour or the violet crown or just plain old twilight regardless of what you call it is a lovely time of day to capture the city. These colors appear right afer sunset and just before the blue hour with all these different colors from pink, to purple to violet or lavender still hanging on from earlier. These colors only last for a short bit before they are gone so you have to be ready and today there was no wind so we were able to capture the skyline building reflections in the water which also pick up the colors in the sky this rarely happens. We have been comming back to this location to try and capture a view with the purples, pinks and violet colors and tonight we were finally able to capture it tonight. Since I have lived in austin I remember seeing many business with the name of violet crown in them. I remember a shopping center with the name along with other various business over the years. I believe this goes back a long way and is part of the wonderful sky colors that many see in the city over the years. We are aways in awe when you get a good one and tonight it work out nicely.
