Houston River Oaks Movie Theater -The Houston River Oaks Movie Theatre is a historic movie theater located in the River Oaks Shopping Center in the Neartown community in Houston, Texas, east of the River Oaks community. We were excited to find the River Oaks Theater is still in business. The River Oaks theater is a historic landmark and according to my other half its where she spent a good deal of her time in her early twenties so we had to stop and take a photo for nostagia sake. Just another street scene of this vibrant cityscape in downtown Houston. This was in the downtown part of Houston not sure if it is considered downtown or uptown Houston I don’t know where the line is located between the two areas.
Houston Skyline at Twilight – Houston skyline at twilight right after the sun goes down and the lights come on the buildings in downtown Houston light up and you have the blue hour or twilight. The blue hour or twilight is when the sky is still blue and the lights shine through to show this vibrant city in downtown with this great skyline in the background. The Eleanor Tinley Park run along the Allen Parkway and Memorial Drive with the Buffalo Bayou snaking it way through the park. After dark you can see the lights at the Jamail skate park along the townhouses next to the Allen Parkway with a little light still from the sun set earlier still reflecting off some of the buildings. Houston has some of the tallest skyscrapers in the south, it is a city that was made from the energy industry. Some used to say Houston has it cows and it oil, but things have changed a lot since I grew up here for this vibrant diverse city with many business including banking, tech and several universities like Rice, University of Houston not to mention a top place for art, music, museums, and some top knotch sports team like the Astros and along with many others things to do and see in the city. Oh lets not forget the Frost building just barely peeping out from behind the Ashton and other new arrivals. Another city high rise you can just barely see anymore is the Austin 360 as the new high rises have almost completely block its view from here. Austin is a fast growing city with all of it sky-scrapers built in the last ten year so it is has a modern cityscape in downtown and is constantly changing for good or bad. Much of the growth of the city growth has been the large number of high tech companies which have move here to the city in the last five year or so. Austin is also the state capital and it is home to a major school the University of Texas. The city contines to draw tourist and people wanting to vist or live in this lively modern city with it well know night life being the music capital of the world and it great life style. However with that said I must mention the draw back from the increase traffic which can be a complete night mare at time. 8332

Austin Congress Bat Watch – Austin Bat are a tourist attraction that has been going on for many year now. Since the late 1970 when I use to watch the bats from my apartment come out at night from the downtown area it was an amazing site to see. Today it draw tourist and locals alike from all over to watch the bats come out at night. Sometimes it a no show as the the bat leisurely come out through out the evening and some night it a spectacular show of thousand of bats coming out from under the Congress Ave bridge in Austin Texas all at once. It was almost a no show for the evening but we like the sky with this orange glow from the sun set with the spectators waiting for the show to begin right as the sun was going down under the bridge. The bat did come out just as we were heading back to the car but we managed to get a few shots before they were gone. People travel to Austin to see the bats but keep in mind they are only here in large numbers from early spring time to fall after the first cold snap usually late October or early November is when they start their migration for the winter.
Houston Skyline from the Park – This is one of our favorite places to photograph with the many parks near downtown that also has a great view of the Houston skyline from the park. There are many hike and bike trails with fields for playing ball or start up a game of volley ball all with a wonderful cityscape with all the skyscraper high rise buildings in the city as a backdrop. The city view includes the usual skyscrapers like the Chase Tower, Heritage Plaza, Wells Fargo, and the 1400 Smith St. buildings just to name a few. You can see the Houston City Hall building at the base of the buildings where it is dwarfed by the high-rise skyscrapers since Houston has some to the tallest buildings in the southern US. The Buffalo Bayou run along side of the trials through out the park. This is the Eleanor Tinsley park that is right in downtown area along the Allen Parkway a wonderful addition to the city. It was name after Eleanor Tinsley who served on the city counsel for 16 years in 1998. What is so great is the Houston skyline from the park can be seen from most areas of the park and has been a huge addition to the city and a draw for locals and tourist that come to visit.
