Flying Pegasus and Reunion Tower BW- We captured these  two iconic landmark features of downtown Dallas the Flying Pegasus and Reunion Tower in black and white. The Flying Pegasus sit on top of a oil derick in front of the Omni hotel in downtown Dallas. This Pegasus had been on top of the Magnolia Hotel for more than half of a century till it was so rusted and  damaged that it had to be taken down. The city of Dallas replace it with a new pegasus on top of the building for a cost of around 600,000. The orginal pegaus sat in a warehouse for years until a group of nostagic people came together and started the process of bringing it back to life, this city of dallas artistans came together and started to help bring it back.  It was no small feat as no one seem to know where it was at first.  Finally the orginal pegasus was found and then it needed a home and it was placed on an oil derrick in front of the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas.  From this location you can see two landmark for the city of Dallas with the Flying Pegasus and the Reunion Tower in view.

Flying Pegasus and Reunion Tower Night B W – We captured these two iconic landmark features of downtown Dallas with the Flying Pegasus and Reunion Tower  on top of a oil derick in black and white. This Pegasus had been on top of the Magnolia Hotel for more than half of a century in the city of Dallas until it was damaged so sever it had to be taken down and replace with a different pegasus. It sat in a warehouse for many years until a group of artist decided to bring it back and refurbished the orginal pegasus which was in bad shape, but after a period of time it was finally repair to its previous glory. It was place on top of an oil derrick in front of the  Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas.  Tourist flock to downtown Dallas to see the pegasus in front of the Omni Hotel. In this image we capture the two Downtown Dallas landmarks together with the pegasus and the Reunion Tower at night in black and white.  We have many Dallas skyline images many with the pegasus and reunion tower in color and black and white.

Dallas Psychedelic Traveling Man

Dallas Psychedelic Traveling Man – A whismical creation of the 38 foot tall stainless steel robot sculpture in digital psychedelic colors that is shown walking through the Dallas area in an area known as the Deep Ellum. The deep ellum is the area where the rail road had once thrived now it part of the transit rail line. The sculpture was created with element of that area such as the rivet that would of been used on the rail road tracks, the bird because the area had been know for song bird, the guitar shaped head to represent the music in the area and the long legs as his desire to travel and a piece of each is including in all the traveling man series. Each segment comes from the past stories about the area that the artist incorporated into the sculpture. All of these element are meant to tie the history of the area together with a whimsical theme. Here he towers above the city transit train station at 38 feet as he walks along with his little bird on his arm with Dallas skyline in the background in the Deep Ellum area. The Deep Ellum area is a popular area with restaurants, bars, music, along with art galleries and other shops in the area. This is the only one images of traveling man series in Dallas. There are two more traveling man series to be seen in the same area, the banjo playing traveling man and the birth of the traveling man.

Dallas Skyline Pano in Pink in Solidarity with Susan Komen Race for the Cure – A Dallas Skyline in Pink pano as the city celebrates another year of the Susan G Komen race for the cure in downtown part of the city. The Dallas skyline has some of the tallest buildings in Texas second only to Houston with the Bank of America being one of the tallest building in the Texas. The modern architecture in this cityscapes it what keeps us comming back to photograph such a beautify city. We were surprised when many of the high rise buildings in downtown were lit with pink for this years event. This is year 35 of the race in the city it started in, all to benefit rasing money to help find a cure for breast cancer. The city skyscrapers including the Reunion Tower, Bank of America along with the Omni Hotel all showed their solidarity by lighting up the Dallas Skylin in pink on the final day of the Susan B Komen Race for the Cure event in downtown Dallas. This cityscape image of Dallas with the orginal Red Flying Neon Pegasus Horse sitting on top of an oil derrick which rotates for different views is now located at the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas. In this image you can see the Reunion Tower and the Omni Hotel with the Red neon Pegasus sitting atop of an oil derick and rotating around so it can be viewed from any angle. This neon Pegasus had sat on top of the Magnolia building since the 1934 which was 29 floors high building and it had been like a beacon for all who lived in and travel to Dallas. The red pegasus was used as a symbol for the Magnolia Oil Company for many years till it became the Mobil Oil comapny. In the mean time this flying pegasus sitting a top of the Magnolia building has become an iconic landmark for the city for many years. In 1999 the orginal pegasus for taken down from the top of Magnolia building where it had sat since 1934 due to rust,corrosion and age over time need to come down. It was replace with a new pegasus. However, some in Dallas wanted to know what happen to the orginal Pegasus and began a search by a man name Jeremy McKane after a conversation with 82 year old June Mattingly who explain the importance of the flying horse symbol he was even more sure they needed to find it and see if it could be restored. McKane was recruited by Matthew Southwest to help provide the art for the Omni Hotel and after speaking with the vise president Jeff West of the company a common bond was form to find the Pegasus. McKain with the help of Jeff continue to talk to people and over a period of time the orginal flying pegasus was found in a city storage shed near White Rock. Jeff West got the finacing from his company to restore the project so with McKain and a group of artist and experts on restoration they were able to bring this landmark back to life on the lawn of the Omni Hotel for all to enjoy again. d82-4917

We were calling it a day when we turned around on the Dallas pedestrian bridge and saw this sun rays through the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge when we decided to catch another image of the cityscape from this location. This city pedestrian bridge has been renamed as the Ron Kirk Avenue Bridge previously it was called the continental avenue bridge. In any case this bridge in Dallas has become a landmark location for tourist and local to visit. On any day you can find family out with children playing in the play area, people walking, people taking photos, selfies, any kind of event can lead to a trip to the Ron Kirk Avenue Bridge. This is one of the most popular location in the city for families along with tourist to come and just hang out and take in the cities skyline views in downtown Dallas.d84-7353

Dallas City Sunrise – We were calling it a day when we turned around on the Continental Avenue and saw this sunburst through the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge when we decided to catch another image of the cityscape from this location. We capture this Dallas Margaret Hunt Hill bridge at sunrise as a sun rays just pop up over the rail in the early morning in downtown with a city skyline in view. The sky filled with these clouds with wonderful pink and orange colors in the morning light over the Margaret Hunt Hill bridge. The Dallas Margaret Hunt Hill bridge has become a popular spot for locals and tourist alike, it is a beautiful bridge that is 400 ft high, which was designed by Santiago Calatrava the first part of the Trinity project. The bridge was complete in 2012 and has become a major landmark and iconic structure that has become a part of the cities skyline images that draw tourist and locals alike. Dallas skyline has some of the tallest skyscrapers like the Bank of America, Fountain Plaza, Chase Tower, and the popular Reunion Tower. The population for Dallas is almost 2 million but the Dallas Fort Worth area or DFW has a population over 7 million. Dallas got it root from the railroad when it was a major inland transportation hub for cotton, cattle and later on oil. It is now a modern city with some of the tallest buildings in Texas second only to Houston. It is the third most populous city in Texas after Houston and San Antonio. There are many fortune 500 companies in Dallas such as AT&T, Southwest Airlines, Sprint, 7 Eleven, and many other tech companies, which has seal Dallas as leader in the business world. It also has a vibrant art district.

The tallest building is the Bank of America Plaza which stands at 921 feet and the second tallest is the Renaissance Tower at 886 feet. Out of the top ten of the tallest buildings in the southern United States Dallas has three of the tallest buildings in Texas and Houston has seven. The downtown sits along the Trinity River where the town was founded and the city grew from it oil and cotton industry along the railroads, now business is mostly banking, telecommunications, technology, energy, healthcare and medical research, and transportation and logistic. This metropolitan area lead the nation as one of the nations largest employer and metropolitan area’s economy is the 10th largest in the world. We loved this image because we were able to capture such a large area of the downtown area of the city however this area is no longer available to photograph from. So we can only hope next time we go back we can find a similar site to capture the city from.
