Sunset over South Padre Island

Sunset over South Padre from Laguna Madre.  South Padre Island is one of the few places along the gulf coast you can take a sunrise and a sunset photo. We had been out earlier trying to capture the wind surfers on the flats, but they lost wind. While we were trying to decide what next the sun started setting and it was a big orange glow.  The sky was incredible as the sun began to set and sky got more orange taking over the entire sky so of course we continued taking photos did it went dark.  It seldom you get these magical kind of moments over the Texas coast. The Texas coast has some beautiful coastal scenery no matter when you come. My favorite time to visit Padre island is in the winter but no matter when you come its a great place to kill some time. Austin Skyline Glow

Austin Skyline Glow – Austin skyline aerial as the sunset leaves this orange glow over Lady Bird Lake shoreline. The high rise buildings continue to grow along the town lake or Lady Bird Lake and on this aerial we can see we are almost done with building along the lake once the Independent or Jingle as some call it, is completed next year. Not really but just thought I would say it, but the truth is there are plans for two more 800 ft plus buildings in the same area over the next few year it seem they would be out of space to build in that area I guess not. In any case the downtown view along the lake has been changing almost yearly so we will see what come next. Austin skyline is a modern since most of the buildings have been built in the last ten years or so. Austin has many things to do in the city from the many parks, hike and bike trails, boating, barton springs, museums, along with live music events and UT sporting events to keep any one satisfied. Austin is situated in central texas at the beginning of the hill country where there are two lakes close by like Lake Austin, along with Lake Travis which are less than 30 minutes away for boating, swimming and other lake activities. Austin is a high tech town with lot of business related to that along with it is home to University of Texas and the State Capital.

Austin Skyline Sunset Aerial  – Austin Aerial skyline view at Twilight taken from a birds eye view. This is another aerial image of the Austin skyline twilight view looking down Lady Bird Lake with the city modern high rise buildings along the shoreline of the lake and looking north over IH35 where you can see the UT stadium and Erwin Center in the distant view. You can see Austin tallest building the Austonian which for a few months longer will hold that title till the Independent is completed sometime before the end of the year. It has been hard to capture images of Austin skyline from anywhere along the hike and bike trail because they are constantly adding new building along the shoreline. About the time you think they are done new cranes show up. Just recently found out that we will have two new buildings along the town lake shoreline once more and they will be taller than the Independent so its title will not last long. Just like all good things they don’t last long you can barely see the top of the Frost building, at one time it was the tallest building in the skyline. The cityscape has been constantly changing for years and I guess until all the land is gone it will continue. Actually from this spot in the 70’s you had a straight on view of the Texas Capital those days have been gone for many years now you may be able to see the top of the dome if you look hard enough in this view.

Golden Glow Over Bluebonnets

Golden Glow Over Bluebonnets – This was taken on the colorado river as the sunrise cast this golden glow over bluebonnets with these golden clouds cast their warm colors over this amazing field of wildflowers. Springtime in the Texas hill country is my favorite time because of all the wonderful wildflowers everywhere, especially when you come across a big field of bluebonnets like this it can be a magical landscape. These blueboonets were taken along the Colorado river in the Hill Country at sunrise as the sky and cloud had this golden glow. The Texas bluebonnets are a variety of blue wildflowers that grow in the State of Texas every spring which are of the genus Lupinus. Originally in 1901 the state declare only one blue bonnet the state flower however, in 1971 the Texas legislature declare that any flower found to be similar to Lupinus be declared the state flower. The name bluebonnet was from the look of the top of white part of the flower that was similar to the bonnet that woman wore on their heads in the pioneering days. The popularity of the blue bonnet grew after Lady Bird Johnson had push the Highway Beautification Act where she encorage everyone to plant native wildflowers along highways in the state. Today you can find wildflowers along many roads in Texas and the Texas Hill County has been known as one of the better places to find them. Bluebonnets love soil that drain wells and you will find them easily growing along the slopping areas along the roads. Of course some years are better than others but you don’t have to drive too far into the hill country to find them along the roads. It is almost that time for the bluebonnets to bloom anywhere between the middle of March to the middle of April depending on where and if we got the right amount of rain and sun here in central Texas. We also have other wildflowe that show up near the same time like Indian Paintbrush it changes year to year it is alway fun to see what will show up every spring.

Golden Glow over Blue Bonnets – We capture this sunrise over a field of bluebonnets through the mesquite tree just as the sun came up and it created this nice golden glow. You can see the sunset is just coming up over the horizon through the two mesquite trees in this landscape. This was a nice field of wildflowers in the texas hill country. The Texas bluebonnet or lupine was declare a state flower in 1971 by the Texas legislature. Also Lady Bird Johnson help in her push to create the Highway beautification Act which is how wildflowers in Texas took root. We can thank Lady Bird for these beautiful spring wildflowers that are across our highways and park and where ever they may be.

Texas Hill Country Blue Bonnets

Heavenly Texas Hill Country Blue Bonnets – Texas Wildflower Landscapes Canvas and Prints – Remembering this particular year of wildflowers I mean what could be better than the Texas hill country blue bonnets in spring and on this year with what seems to be endless field of flowers before you it hard to beat. Seeing this many bluebonnets in one place can bring out all kind of thing out in a photographer, its like your a kid in a candy store. Muleshoe Park which is an LCRA park along the Colorado river was overrun with bluebonnet wildflower on this particular spring. For us it meant several trips to try and capture these spectacular Texas Hill Country blue bonnetit before they were gone or at least before they were driven over and destroyed by all the cars, trucks and people who showed up for the wildflowers event. I think we arrived in the knick of time and capture this wonderful image just as the sun was setting over this field of bluebonnet wildflowers. Did not hurt that we were able to capture this wonderful sunset with it heavenly glow of orangse and pink colors in the sky with the Texas Hill Country and blue bonnets wildflowers for the perfect day. All you can see in this landscape is a field of endless bluebonnets wildflowers with the saltgrass growing along the bountries in Muleshoe Park. How this happen we are not sure but the area had been under drought condition this year and the water dropped leaving this area exposed again and I guess the seeds had washed into the lake and were sitting just waiting for some sunlight so some good can come out of a drought, who knew. This year was by far the best field of bluebonnets I have ever seen and unfortunately the second year this area at the park did not come back with bluebonnets, but the other side still of the park had enough flowers to satisfiy most. These bluebonnets only lasted till the drought lifted and then they were again covered by waters of the Colorado river and gone. They have never come back like this since only small patches along the waters edge. In my opnion this years crop of bluebonnet which was only around for two year was and is the Best Images of Texas Hill Country Bluebonnets we have ever had the opportunity to photograph. I might be a little bias.

Bluebonnet Sunrise on the River

Bluebonnet Sunrise on the River – We capture this image early one morning at sunrise as the sun rose along the Colorado river with this field of Texas blue bonnets. The Texas bluebonnet or also called the Lupinus Texensis were wonderful this morning. I am not a morning person but this morning we were up at 5am and drove an hour to this special spot to capture this field of bluebonnets at sunrise along the river. After trying 3 days in a row the sky finally looked like it was going to be the one so we dashed out to this morning hoping to capture the image at dark thirty in the morning and got there just as the sky was starting to lighten up. We quickly got setup and waited for the sun to pop up over the hill side. The buebonnet or lupine are distinct to this area and is also the Texas state flower. Springtime in Texas is my favorite time because of the wildflowers we can all thank Lady Bird for help in making spring special every year.

Heavenly Bluebonnet Sunset

Heavenly Bluebonnet Sunset – We pulled this Texas bluebonnet image from the archive where we captured an amazing sunset that day we only have our memories of this place as it gone for good now. This field was full of bluebonnets as far as you could see is gone for ever, it is now the new site of the PEC corporate office just north of Marble Falls that is next to the famous bluebonnet farm house that every one has images of. However a photo of bluebonnets is always a bluebonnets image which is always a good day. In Texas we love our bluebonnets here.

Heavenly Bluebonnet Sunset – Just came across this image of the field of bluebonnets we took several years ago next to the old farm house in Marble Falls. Unfortunately this field is gone forever now as they are building the New PEC office there. I had not put this out here but since it the last memory of this bluebonnet landscape next to the old farm house it deserve to be seen. Love the sky which was a swirl of clouds at sunset and the sky picked up the reds and pinks colors and cast a nice glow over this bluebonnet landscape as the sun set.
