Santa Elena Canyon Path

Santa Elena Canyon Path – A little different view of Santa Elena Canyon from the pathway to the canyons as the mountains rise up it for an impressive view of the site. These two side of the canyons, one on the left is Mexico side and the other the US side allow the Rio Grande river to flow out of mountains and contiunue it journey downstream. This Texas landscape had a nice sky with some nice clouds and a path that led your eyes toward the canyon walls. To me the Santa Elena Canyon are one of the highlights of the Big Bend National park, to get there it is about an hour drive on the Ross Maxwell Scenic drive west through the Chiso Mountain when almost to the end of the road, there is an scenic overlook of the canyon landscape from here. But if you want explore more drive a little farther to the trail head where you can walk about 5 minutes along a board walk on sand to get to a beach area where the Rio Grande River flows out of the mouth of the canyons. If you like you can climb up the cliffs as there are several fairly accessable views points for some outstanding Texas scenery that are not too high or difficult to climb or stay below and enjoy the stunning view from below. The river is seldom too deep and in some cases you can walk quite a ways back into the canyons. We have landscape images from several views of this wonderful Texas scenery on our site so thanks for looking. beecreekphoto.com

It is a top location to visit for those who come to Big Bend National Park every year. The cliffs rise up 1500 feet from the Rio Grande river goes right down the middle with one side on the US and the other side of the canyon is on Mexico side.

Sunrise Under the Pier

Sunrise Under the Pier – We had started working our way down the Texas Coast beach in Port Aransas early morning before sunrise and just as the sun was slightly above the horizon we shot this one and loved the look of the underside of the Caldwell Pier. Today the sunrise under the pier was just peeking above the horizon reflecting off the clouds and surf below as it gently rolled in carry some sea weed with the morning light for a nice coastal scene. The sun light was also reflecting off the water and wet sand which reflected the sunrise colors back under the pier to make for a pretty texas coastal landscape scene. The texas coast is located in the gulf of mexico and Port A has about 18 miles of beach with plenty to do from sport fishing, parasailing, swimming, surfing, birding, and many other event on the island to keep you from getting board. Just to get to the island can require a ferry ride to get to the island or you can come around the long way as we call it through Corpus Christi maybe a thirty drive down the shoreline of mustang island.

Golden Glow Over Bluebonnets

Golden Glow Over Bluebonnets – This was taken on the colorado river as the sunrise cast this golden glow over bluebonnets with these golden clouds cast their warm colors over this amazing field of wildflowers. Springtime in the Texas hill country is my favorite time because of all the wonderful wildflowers everywhere, especially when you come across a big field of bluebonnets like this it can be a magical landscape. These blueboonets were taken along the Colorado river in the Hill Country at sunrise as the sky and cloud had this golden glow. The Texas bluebonnets are a variety of blue wildflowers that grow in the State of Texas every spring which are of the genus Lupinus. Originally in 1901 the state declare only one blue bonnet the state flower however, in 1971 the Texas legislature declare that any flower found to be similar to Lupinus be declared the state flower. The name bluebonnet was from the look of the top of white part of the flower that was similar to the bonnet that woman wore on their heads in the pioneering days. The popularity of the blue bonnet grew after Lady Bird Johnson had push the Highway Beautification Act where she encorage everyone to plant native wildflowers along highways in the state. Today you can find wildflowers along many roads in Texas and the Texas Hill County has been known as one of the better places to find them. Bluebonnets love soil that drain wells and you will find them easily growing along the slopping areas along the roads. Of course some years are better than others but you don’t have to drive too far into the hill country to find them along the roads. It is almost that time for the bluebonnets to bloom anywhere between the middle of March to the middle of April depending on where and if we got the right amount of rain and sun here in central Texas. We also have other wildflowe that show up near the same time like Indian Paintbrush it changes year to year it is alway fun to see what will show up every spring.

Golden Glow over Blue Bonnets – We capture this sunrise over a field of bluebonnets through the mesquite tree just as the sun came up and it created this nice golden glow. You can see the sunset is just coming up over the horizon through the two mesquite trees in this landscape. This was a nice field of wildflowers in the texas hill country. The Texas bluebonnet or lupine was declare a state flower in 1971 by the Texas legislature. Also Lady Bird Johnson help in her push to create the Highway beautification Act which is how wildflowers in Texas took root. We can thank Lady Bird for these beautiful spring wildflowers that are across our highways and park and where ever they may be.

Sunflowers at Sunset Landscape

Sunflowers at Sunset Landscape –
This year was a particulary good year for sunflowers fields so we made the trek to capture a sunflowers at sunset landscape. So we made the trek about a four hours drive to try and capture the flowers several times in the month of June finally after our fourth try we were able to capture a good sunflowers at sunset landscape image. We made many attempt to get this photo going back several times to try and get this field of sunflowers at sunset and on our last try it finally worked. We had to added a little flash to keep enough light on the sunflowers at sunset as it was starting to get dark. We were not alone trying to capture this photo along IH35 that day there were many cars stopping to take picture of sunflowers fields and every time we came after. It was a pretty awesome site, farmers are now using giant sunflowers in their rotation of their crops so they can go on for miles in some area. There scientific name is Helianthus giganteus, is a large annual flower grown as a crop for its edible oil and seeds. Smithsonian Magazine made this photo of the day.

Fred Hartman Bridge BW

Fred Hartman Bridge BW – This image of the Fred Hartman Bridge in black and white as a pelican flys over is our photo of the day. The Fred Hartman Bridge in black and white really brings out the architecture of the bridges structure in this landscape image. This is another one of the cable stay bridges and the longest at 2.6 miles that have been built in Texas in the last twenty or so years. The other popular cable stay bridge is the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in Dallas which has become a iconic site in the cities skyline. The Fred Hartman bridge crosses the Houston ship channel between Baytown and La Porte Texas. The bridge is the replacement for the previous Baytown tunnel because the ship channel need to be dug deeper to allow for larger ships to flow through the ship channel. I remember us driving through the Baytown tunnel on our way to the beach when I was a child and being afraid it would collape on us as we were going through. It was just my childhood claustrophobia kicking in as far as I know it never collapsed. It is certainly an impressive site to see new Fred Hartman Bridge in this Texas cityscape of the Houston ship channel.

Oueen Isabella Memorial Causeway

Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway bridge at Padre Island is the only road to South Padre from Port Isabel which connect to the mainland. Oueen Isabella Memorial Causeway is the second longest bridge in Texas at 2.4 mmiles long. The Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway crosses Laguna Madre and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Tourist come here for the blue waters and mild temperture along with miles of white sandy beaches and every year during spring break padre island is overrun with young from all around. Padre Island is located in south Texas and not far from Mexico USA border. Also in the early morning hours of Sept 15, 2001 a barge ran into the Oueen Isabella Causeway and cause a portion to collapse and eight people lost their life as they drove over the edge and into the water below. The Oueen Isabella Causeway at Padre Island was repair with additional safety feature so that this would not happen again.
