Texas Hill Country River Sunset Pano

Texas Hill Country River Sunset Pano – The sun was just setting and back lit these clouds which were reflected nicely into the water along the river. The Texas river is a tributary of the Colorado river and flows approximately 106 miles into Central Texas region. The river flow through the hill country from springs near Kimble County east through Fredericksburg through Blanco County through Stonewall, Johnson City, and continues it flow into Lake Travis on the west side of Travis County in Central Texas. We capture this right at sunset and got some nice colors in the sky which was reflected in the waters. There are some moments when the beauty of the hill country really shine through and that is as the sun sets in the west or as the sunrises in the east.  If you have a body or water, rivers or some hills it can be a magical landscape image. Texas scenery has lots of variety it can go from the desert landscape to the  swamps of east Texas, or mountains of big bend to the farmland in the heart of the state. No matter where you go the scenery will change to something new and exciting.

Texas Bluebonnets Twilight at the Lake – We came to this location along the water several times to capture both sunrise and sunset of these wonderful bluebonnet wildflowers at the lake edge. This capture of the bluebonnets at twilight was our favorite with all those wonderful colors. Capturing good bluebonnets is a matter of luck many times and we were lucky that this area had bluebonnet wildflowers again after the lake went back down which allowed them to come back. This little leafless tree that was positioned along the waters edge which added a nice element in the image and was perfect to add to our landscape capture of this bluebonnets landscape. The Texas hill country dry river bed came back to life this year after the waters went down along the colorado river and this field of bluebonnets popped up to our delight. It was delightful to see the field of wildflowers again not as much as the first time years ago, but still wonderful. Spring time in the Texas hill country can be magical when fields of wildflowers appear in great numbers. We live not far from here so we came here many times till word got out and the bluebonnet got trampled down. The texas hill country has been one of the best places to capture pictures of bluebonnets landscapes in the past and we can only hope forever. Taking pictures of bluebonnets is one of our favorite things to capture. There are many varieties of bluebonnets in Texas from the chiso bluebonnet, to the sandyland and of course the Lupinus texensis lupine, has been the state flower since the 1901 and all other bluebonnets were included in 1971 by the Texas Legislature which made all lupines in the state the state flower. For most the most popular is the Lupinus texensis or texas bluebonnet which are here in the hill country which range in color from blue to violet shade depending on the light also the texas hill bluebonnets have the white tops which are known is said to look like a bonnet.

Austin Skyline Along Lady Bird Lake in Fall

Austin Skyline Along Lady Bird Lake in Fall – Fall can be fleeting in Texas, but we do have a short window where the bald cypress and red oaks come togther to create this autumn landscape scenery. The bald cypress turn from an orange to a red to a rusty color along the lake the red oaks are sprinkled through out the area. This is an aerial capture looking toward downtown Austin along Lady Bird Lake or Town Lake as many that have lived here for a while still call it from Zilker park. Austin Texas lady bird lake is actually part of the Highland lakes Colorado river chain which flows from the hill country into lake travis and lake austin into Lady bird lake where it then flow all the way to the coast. Along it way create this recreational spot near Zilker park where people utilize the water with their sups, canoes, or whatever as you an see lot of people on the lake today. Zilker Park is over 350 acres where people come to enjoy all that is offered in the area including picnic tables, soccer, Barton Springs, hike and biking trails which run through the park area and beyond. Actually people were everwhere in the parks today, on the water in their canoes, sups all enjoying the nice day with blue skies and the water was flowing only slightly with allow reflection from of the clouds in the water. You can even see the state capitol dome top in the far left of skyline in the scene for another beautiful day in Austin Texas.

Austin Skyline Dawn Pano – Lady Bird Lake Austin Texas

Austin Skyline Dawn Pano  -Lady Bird Lake Austin Texas – We captured this Austin Skyline before sunrise which is the best time to get some color in the sky right at dawn. Butler Shores was the only place where you can park now as many parking lots are closed in downtown due to the covid19. We wanted to capture the latest Austin skyline before downtown Austin has another transformation as we have two more high rises that they have started on in the last year that will change the skyline again very soon. The two new skyscrapers will be two hundred feet taller than the Independent or Jengal building seen in this image. The Independent now has the top crown lit which many had been waiting to see. In the last couple of years the skyline has added at least a dozen new skyscrapers along the shoreline, many which have blocked some of the old high rise buildings like the austin 360 and the Frost Bank Tower. The frost can still be seen from this angle but in many cases it is not visible any longer. This area is popular because of the many parks and hike and bike trails that are so easily usable in downtown. The city of Austin had a thriving convention business till the covid19 virus that brought many to the area which I am sure will come back soon. Austin has a population of a million people and it sometimes seem they are all downtown with all the condos they have built. Austin Texas has alway had a reputaton of a city with a vibe with it music industry like the SBSW and the ACL festives along with so many small events it too hard to name them all. We have taken many of the Texas skylines and non have had the transformation that Austin Tx has, especially along Lady Bird Lake or town lake as many old timers call it which is part of the highland lakes colorado river chain. Austin is also the home to theTexas Capitol which is one of the largest employer in downtown Austin, along with the many high tech company like Amazon, IBM, Adobe, Google to name a few. Today Austin’s population has reach one million and is one of the fastest growing city in the south.

Austin Skyline Sunrise

Austin Skyline Sunrise – We captured this image Austin skyline before the sun acually broke the horizon on this morning in the downtown area of the city. The sky painted the sky with some pinks, yellow, purple and blues which was a lovely backdrop on this day. We have been trying to capture this shot from congress bridge for some time but there was so much going on with the protest and constant building that we waited for break. Austin Texas is a popular place for tourist to visit with so many things to do, with a great music scene, art events, sporting events and many parks and lake in the area. Austin is on the edge of the Texas hill country another popular place to visit especially in the spring for the wildflower season.  Downtown Austin is beautiful modern city with some unique architecture and new high rises almost yearly.  We will need to come back in a few years as their are plans for two more buildings in the city that will be two hundred feet taller than the tallest building the Independent in Austin now. Austin skyline has been constantly changing so we have tried to catch it as the latest batch of building have been finished. This images captures the congress bridge that leads your eye to the Texas Capitol in downtown Austin. The Texas Capitol is a landmark and favorite tourist attraction to visit when people come to town. Also University of Texas is the largest university in the city and draws a large crowd for their many sporting and school events. In this Austin aerial image you can see the second tallest building the Austonian and the Frost and many others along the water front. Lately the Lady Bird Lake which is this portion of the Colorado river has been getting more and more crowed as they are constanly building new high rises along the colorado river water front. Rio Grande Thru Santa Elena

Rio Grande Thru Santa Elena – This view from inside the Santa Elena canyon was spectacular with the water reflections of the cliff from above with the blue sky reflecting back into the water it was awesome sight. The Rio Grande thru Santa Elena Canyon is located in Big Bend National Park and the canyon walls are 1500 feet high. As you drive up to the area from the Ross Maxwell Scenic drive it seems like it just around the corner because they are so massive they can be seen from quite a distance. In any case climbing the cliffs to get to this area was worth the effort it was amazing geology and the rio grande flowing only so slightly on this day allow some great reflections in river. Many people come to canoe through the canyons putting in upstream at Lajitas and taking the 13 mile ride to Santa Elena Canyons to see our the natural beauty of the area. This Santa Elena Canyons are spit down the middle with the cliffs on each side being owned by the USA and Mexico. The canoe trip I have been told has some class four rapids at certain water levels so check it out before hand or you can always take a day trip call the boomerage up the river and back.

Scenic Fall Frio River

Scenic Fall Frio River – We captured this scenic fall frio river on one of our many trips this year into the hill country to capture the autumn season in Garner State Park and nearby areas. The image of the bald cypress which were turning different shades of orange, to rusty red color for the fall season and gave some nice reflections in the water we thought gave the feeling of serenity. I think this is one of my many favorites fall landscape from here from this location in the texas hill country, This fall landscape image of these wonderful cypress tree was the winning part of this image. In the Texas hill country. we don’t have a big fall season, but this year turn out very nice for the Texas Hill country. It is alway dependent on weather condition not being too hot or dry then we can get see some nice autumn colors in the area. In Texas we go from drought to floods not to mention the temperature can affect the color changes. So if our summers not too bad and we get a little more rain then we can see some fall colors changes on some years. If not then the leave will fall off before they change colors. Always a delicate dance with mother nature. Luckily for us this year looks like we are getting some nice color. Getting to the park when it open was the best time to capture the best light. The light was soft, and with no wind the water was still and we captured some excellent reflections of the bald cypress up the Frio River in the Garner with nice blue skies and whispy clouds. Cypress trees turn a golden shade and then turn a rusty red right before they go brown and fall off. Garner State Park is a popular park and it visited year round by many people in some cases they close the park before noon for day visiters especially in the summer time because as usual it is loved to death. Still it worth a visit to the Texas Hill country no matter what time of year it is.

It was difficult to find a location to capture the city so we settled on the ferry landing to capture this pano of the New Orleans Skyline and because it was such a nice image we decided it would look even better as a black and white.
