Sunrise Driftwood Beach

Sunrise at Driftwood Beach  – This is Driftwood beach at Jekyll Island with dead trees in the sand at sunrise as a 2 to 1 panorama. It was a beautiful morning sunrise with these fablous dead trees that seem to magically grow from the sands along driftwood beach at Jekyll island. This look almost un-worldly in the early morning at the beach. This has been a location we have wanted to go to for some time now. Driftwood beach or boneyard beach as some have coined the phase because of all the trees and limbs that seem to magically grow from the sands along the beach. This view of this tree is silouette at sunrise which looks out over the Altantic Ocean something we never get to see here in Texas. This skeleton tree that is still planted in the sand gave some nice reflections as a silouette along the wet sand at sunrise reflecting back the wonderful colors from the sky. Jekyll Island is part of the Golden Isles of Georgia barrier islands.  This golden isles barrier islands got their name from the gold color that the salt marshes grasses turn in winter that surround this group of island.

The island gets its name from a short-lived Yamassee Indian village known as San Simon, which was established near Fort Frederica during the late 1660s to 1684. The English shorten the name later.

Stormy Austin Skyline Night

Stormy Austin Skyline Night – Austin Skyline Night capture from the boardwalk was a stunning site with these great refections in the lake and a little of the blue hour left to make it interesting. This Austin skyline includes the latest edition with the tallest high rise in the city the new Independent or Jingle as some call it for it unique style. We had been waiting till the light came on the tops of the Independent building to get this shot of the city. I was getting ready to pack it up from my position on the boardwalk when I could see these storm clouds pushing in to the view of the city skyline with a lot of lightning yet no wind as of yet so the buildings reflection could still be seen in Lady Bird Lake for a awesome catch which rarely happens. When it comes to Austin Lady Bird Lake there is almost always someone on the water or even ducks to mess up a perfect reflection but tonight we got lucky. In any case Austin has one of the best skyline in Texas day or night. The hike and bike trail along town lake is busy most of the time day or night.

Texas Bluebonnet Sunset Landscape Vertical

Texas Bluebonnet Sunset Landscape Vertical – Texas bluebonnets in the hill country with cactus, a windmill, and a sunset on one of the many back roads we traveled over the last six weeks is a great last minute find. It is always a delight when we can find a nice field of texas bluebonnet wildflowers with prickly pear cactus and a windmill with a great sunset in the sky for that traditional Texas Hill country landscape. This is the iconic Texas scenery in the hill country that we have come to expect. The blue bonnet season is coming to an end for the bluebonnets in the hill country but just around the corner is the other wildflowers that should be popping up shortly to take it place.

Bluebonnet Images – Bluebonnets Sunset at Lake – A thick field of Texas bluebonnets taken at sunset near a lake as the cloud backlight with these pink colors across the sky . The sky reflected the colors into the water below as the sunset in the west. These bluebonnet wildflowers were wonderful this year they created a blanket of blue flowers over this field for a beautiful Texas landscape. This was one of the best years for bluebonnets everywhere in texas. The bluebonnet fields seem to be carpeted in lupines or blue bonnets that were so thick never have I seen them this good. Every year its a new wait and see what the texas wildflowers will be.

Golden Glow Over Bluebonnets

Golden Glow Over Bluebonnets – This was taken on the colorado river as the sunrise cast this golden glow over bluebonnets with these golden clouds cast their warm colors over this amazing field of wildflowers. Springtime in the Texas hill country is my favorite time because of all the wonderful wildflowers everywhere, especially when you come across a big field of bluebonnets like this it can be a magical landscape. These blueboonets were taken along the Colorado river in the Hill Country at sunrise as the sky and cloud had this golden glow. The Texas bluebonnets are a variety of blue wildflowers that grow in the State of Texas every spring which are of the genus Lupinus. Originally in 1901 the state declare only one blue bonnet the state flower however, in 1971 the Texas legislature declare that any flower found to be similar to Lupinus be declared the state flower. The name bluebonnet was from the look of the top of white part of the flower that was similar to the bonnet that woman wore on their heads in the pioneering days. The popularity of the blue bonnet grew after Lady Bird Johnson had push the Highway Beautification Act where she encorage everyone to plant native wildflowers along highways in the state. Today you can find wildflowers along many roads in Texas and the Texas Hill County has been known as one of the better places to find them. Bluebonnets love soil that drain wells and you will find them easily growing along the slopping areas along the roads. Of course some years are better than others but you don’t have to drive too far into the hill country to find them along the roads. It is almost that time for the bluebonnets to bloom anywhere between the middle of March to the middle of April depending on where and if we got the right amount of rain and sun here in central Texas. We also have other wildflowe that show up near the same time like Indian Paintbrush it changes year to year it is alway fun to see what will show up every spring.

Golden Glow over Blue Bonnets – We capture this sunrise over a field of bluebonnets through the mesquite tree just as the sun came up and it created this nice golden glow. You can see the sunset is just coming up over the horizon through the two mesquite trees in this landscape. This was a nice field of wildflowers in the texas hill country. The Texas bluebonnet or lupine was declare a state flower in 1971 by the Texas legislature. Also Lady Bird Johnson help in her push to create the Highway beautification Act which is how wildflowers in Texas took root. We can thank Lady Bird for these beautiful spring wildflowers that are across our highways and park and where ever they may be.

Texas Hill Country Blue Bonnets

Heavenly Texas Hill Country Blue Bonnets – Texas Wildflower Landscapes Canvas and Prints – Remembering this particular year of wildflowers I mean what could be better than the Texas hill country blue bonnets in spring and on this year with what seems to be endless field of flowers before you it hard to beat. Seeing this many bluebonnets in one place can bring out all kind of thing out in a photographer, its like your a kid in a candy store. Muleshoe Park which is an LCRA park along the Colorado river was overrun with bluebonnet wildflower on this particular spring. For us it meant several trips to try and capture these spectacular Texas Hill Country blue bonnetit before they were gone or at least before they were driven over and destroyed by all the cars, trucks and people who showed up for the wildflowers event. I think we arrived in the knick of time and capture this wonderful image just as the sun was setting over this field of bluebonnet wildflowers. Did not hurt that we were able to capture this wonderful sunset with it heavenly glow of orangse and pink colors in the sky with the Texas Hill Country and blue bonnets wildflowers for the perfect day. All you can see in this landscape is a field of endless bluebonnets wildflowers with the saltgrass growing along the bountries in Muleshoe Park. How this happen we are not sure but the area had been under drought condition this year and the water dropped leaving this area exposed again and I guess the seeds had washed into the lake and were sitting just waiting for some sunlight so some good can come out of a drought, who knew. This year was by far the best field of bluebonnets I have ever seen and unfortunately the second year this area at the park did not come back with bluebonnets, but the other side still of the park had enough flowers to satisfiy most. These bluebonnets only lasted till the drought lifted and then they were again covered by waters of the Colorado river and gone. They have never come back like this since only small patches along the waters edge. In my opnion this years crop of bluebonnet which was only around for two year was and is the Best Images of Texas Hill Country Bluebonnets we have ever had the opportunity to photograph. I might be a little bias.

Fred Hartman Bridge BW

Fred Hartman Bridge BW – This image of the Fred Hartman Bridge in black and white as a pelican flys over is our photo of the day. The Fred Hartman Bridge in black and white really brings out the architecture of the bridges structure in this landscape image. This is another one of the cable stay bridges and the longest at 2.6 miles that have been built in Texas in the last twenty or so years. The other popular cable stay bridge is the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in Dallas which has become a iconic site in the cities skyline. The Fred Hartman bridge crosses the Houston ship channel between Baytown and La Porte Texas. The bridge is the replacement for the previous Baytown tunnel because the ship channel need to be dug deeper to allow for larger ships to flow through the ship channel. I remember us driving through the Baytown tunnel on our way to the beach when I was a child and being afraid it would collape on us as we were going through. It was just my childhood claustrophobia kicking in as far as I know it never collapsed. It is certainly an impressive site to see new Fred Hartman Bridge in this Texas cityscape of the Houston ship channel.
