Misty Morning at Oak Alley Plantation BW

This is another capture of the mansion and oak trees right before the sun was fully up and before the mist lifted on this early morning at the Oak Alley Plantation which I thought worked best as a black and white image. This misty look give this image a moody feel with the mansion and large old oaks in BW as the the morning mist settles over the property seems to transport you back in time. The Oak Alley plantation is a popular spot for tourist looking for history of the deep south and a feel for what life long ago was like on these plantations. The plantation was created in the early 1800’s as a surgar cane plantation and was worked by slaves so it rich in historic value. The plantation got it name from the many live oak trees that were planted over 300 years ago prior to the plantations existance. Some refer to this area as Oak valley or Seven Oaks and it is near the community of Vacherie St James Parish in Louisiana. Many movies has been made here especially including anything releated to the deep south civil war era along with many spooky movies. The Oak Alley Plantation is a National Historic Landmark as it is rich in history and is visited by many toursit yearly. The Foudation maintains the property today for the this historic site.

Misty Morning Oak Alley BW – I got up early before the sunrise hoping to capture the sun rise and the mist was everywhere so I shot the photo.  Luckily for me a little later on the sun cleared the mist and I captured my shot. After looking at this I said this works too so I made it a black and white to enhance that haunting spooky look thru these wonderful old oak trees at Oak Alley. This image os looking toward the Mississippi river from the mansion.  Oak Alley is located in Varcherie St James Parish in Louisiana in the southern united states and is now a National Historic Landmark..  This wonderful old plantation with its 300 year old live oak trees run along the Mississippi along the river rd.

Milkyway At the Ranch

Milkyway At the Ranch – In Texas we say everything is bigger that includes the stars in the Milky Way we just capture in this nightscapes in this summer sky over this ranch land in the Hill Country. These days it is now getting harder and harder to capture those stars images because of light polution from even small towns so we have to travel farther and farther out in the Texas Hill Country to capture a night sky where there a lot of stars without a lot of light pollution. In this image we had to go west past Llano Texas just to find an area where we could even see the milky way. We did manage to find a ranch with a nice gate and waited till the Milky Way was just right and light paint gate just enough so we had a soft light on the gate with the galaxy behind.

Milky Way at the Ranch –  The milkyway can be seen from this angle in Texas late at night in the evening only a few times a year so we took advantage and capture a few shots. The milkyway is the galaxy that contains our solar system. The term milky is derived from the appearance from earth of the galaxy. The stars that make up the milky way are giant, luminous spheres of plasma and the galaxies consist of stars, stellar remnants, dust, gas, and dark matter, bound together by gravity. It is not alway easy to see the stars or the milky way because of light pollution in our area so we travel west where there is less pollution but you have to go to Big Bend area inorder to get really dark skies in Texas. For us this time it was not possible to go there but we were able to capture the milky way out past Llano Texas.  We alway like to have something in our images that has meaning that shows a sense of place to our images.  We came across this simple traditional Texas scene of a gate at the entrance to a ranch in the Texas Hill Country west of Llano Texas and like the look.  We like the simple gate with the wired shaped in the state of Texas and with a backdrop of the milky way in the view what could be better.   In this image we allowed the cars to light paint the gate so we could bring it out better in the image.  We also photographed it as a silouette which we like equally as well.  Every starry nightscape in the Texas Hill country we have  photographed has some little light pollution however when we are photographying it you don’t see any lights not sure where it is coming from.  Even in this photo you can see the light pollution creeping in but the awesome milkyway over rides a little light pollution in this Texas night skies image with the milkyway of the galaxy clearly in view.

Oak Alley at Sunrise

Oak Alley at Sunrise – This was a look into the past that has been frozen in time at our visit of Oak Alley Plantation this last year. To get the feel of the place, we stayed on the property in one of the freed slaves cottages on the property which really helped you get a feel of what life might of been like in the past. In these images we captured the great old oak trees at Oak Alley Plantation at sunrise including the mansion and the other great oaks which have been here for more than 300 years. The Oak Alley plantation landscape is really a beautiful place to visit with a great sense of history both the good and the bad as it pertains to slavery. Our visit to the Oak Alley plantation left us with a sense of what was like for all that live there from the one who lived in the Mansion to the families that were enslaves and work and lived on the property. The property was designated a National Historic Landmark for its architecture and landscaping, and for the agricultural innovation of grafting pecan trees, performed there in 1846–47 by an enslaved gardener.

Oak Alley Sunrise –  Early morning at Oak Alley plantation. The sun is just filtering through theses 300 year old trees on the plantation and light the path to the mansion.  The house was positioned to enhance the trees presence on the plantation and they seem to create this wonderful canopy over the house and sidewalk area. No one knows who planted these oaks trees but they seem to know exacty where they thought the house should be place because they seem to have are perfect path to the Mississippi.  This was a working sugar plantation which was manned by slavery as was the case during this era in the deep south.  The slave live on the property on the other side in their own housing area while their home may have mulitple familes living under the same roof in crowed miserable conditions.  The historical property is beaufiful today and has been well maintained and these oak are what drew us there. These are big and beautiful live oak trees on very nice grounds some refer to this area as oak valley or seven oaks.   This part of the community of  Vacherie St James Parish in Louisiana located on the west bank of the Mississippi River. The property was purchase by Varlcour Aimes in 1830 but exchanged with Jacques Roman and he started building the mansion the following year the style of the house is Greek Revival with his father in law Joseph Pilie as his architect. Later on the property was sold several time and finaly ended up in the hands of Josphine Stewart as a gift from her husband.  She started extensive restoration of the old mansion which had fallen into disrepare over the years but ended up not being able afford the cost to keep it up. Josephine Stewart ended up leaving it to the Oak Alley Foundation in 1972 which open it to the public.l  Oak Alley Plantation is like a world frozen in time with it history dating back to the mid 1800’s. Oak Alley became a National Historic Landmark for its architectural and landscaping along with it grafting of pecans done by an enslaved gardner in 1846-47.

Oak Alley Live Oaks

This is an sunrise landscape image of the wonderful live oak trees at Oak Alley Plantation. These old live oak trees are known to be over 300 years old and they were there even before there was a plantation or house on the property, but no one seems to knows who planted them, but we are glad they did. The plantation runs along the side of Mississippi river in the community of Vacherie, St. James Parish, Louisiana, U.S. This plantation was planted with sugar cane by slaves who live in the southern US and years before the grand old mansion was built these tree were already in place and somehow they knew right where they needed to be for the walkway from the house to the mississippi river. The trees there are amazing and we wanted to show you can do a triptych or multiple panel image from one image on our site to add that punch to a room. There are several reasons you might want to do a mulitple frame image; it allow the image to cover more wall space than a single image, it has modern look, also a mulitple panel images add a unique look to a photo and will be a show stopper and add that wow factor to the room. Please contact us if your interested in one of the split images style of photos.
