Vibrant Wildflowers at Sunset

Vibrant Wildflowers at Sunset - We were so lucky to found this wonderful field of Texas wildflowers, it was the perfect blend of texas bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. We had been here earlier in the day and decided we would come back for sunset and I am so glad we did it turn out beautiful. Just a big beautiful field of red and blue with so many Texas bluebonnets and Indian paintbrushes in a big field at sunset with a colorful sky, what could make for a better capture. Wildflowers season is short and some years we have to travel far to find the best areas as it all depends on the weather and other conditions. We found many field in this area with a wonderful mix of texas wildflowers with a blues and red to feast your eyes on.

Texas Firewheels Wildflowers at Sunset

Texas Firewheels Wildflowers at Sunset - These beautiful Texas red firewheels or indian blankets with some horse mint wildflowers mixed in makes for a perfect sunset over these field of wildflowers. This lovely pecan tree was surrounded by a meadow of Texas red firewheels or indian blankets wildflowers as they are also called. The weather has been overcast for weeks now and we haven't been able to capture these wonderful indian paintbrush in this pasture of Texas wildflowers with enough sun to do them justice. Today we actually saw the sun which brighten up these beauties in this field of wildflowers at the base of this pecan tree in the Texas hill country. The indian blankets got the name because they appeared to blanket an area with colors reds and yellows that were seen in many native americans blankets. Red and yellow were the most likely colors for these wildflower even though they can be completely yellow. The colors range from red leaves with the tips being yellow and or more yellow and less red it all depends, but they are all great. They stand about two feet tall that where they get the name indian blankets as they can cover an area like a blanket. Gaillardia pulchella is a North American species of short-lived perennial or annual flowering plants in the sunflower family that are drought tolerant that grow very well in the Texas hill country every spring.

Heavenly Bluebonnets at Twilight - We had taken shots of this wonderful field of bluebonnets at sunset but something said hang around and we did. The sky errupted with these wonderful colors shortly after sunset over this field of bluebonnet wildflowers in the Texas hill country along at Turkey Bend on lake travis. It was those kind of sunset colors you love with streaks of pinks, orange and yellow against blue sky and a big field of texas bluebonnets at twilight. This was a magical capture with this most beautiful sky and a big field of Texas Blues what more could you ask for.

The sky errupted with these wonderful colors shortly after sunset over this field of bluebonnet wildflowers in the Texas hill country along lake travis. Most refer to this time as twilight or dusk in some cases as it ususally comes up about ten to 20 minutes after the sun goes down. It was one of those kind of sunset colors you love with streaks of pinks, orange and yellow against blue sky and a big field of texas bluebonnets in the Texas hill country along lake travis. This was one of our favorites for 2023 bluebonnets. For more bluebonnet images check out our collections of Texas hill country bluebonnet gallery

Bluebonnets Along Fence - Bluebonnets along a fence in this serene setting with a nice blue sky and clouds along the road in view with the fence leading your eye down the fence line for this wonderful bluebonnets landscape along the fence line. This was taken along the bluebonnet trail at a popular spot for the bluebonnet trail in Ennis Texas. Ennis they say is the Official Texas Bluebonnet Trail and was designated as the Official Bluebonnet City of Texas Bluebonnets. I think they might have some competion but who cares it all good to us it all all who gets rain at the right times.

Texas Mexican Hat Wildflowers

Texas Mexican Hat Wildflowers - We took these mexican hat wildflowers from our property as of right now it is full of wildflowers. Now they go by many names the most common is mexican hat but also can be called Prairie Coneflower, and or Thimbleflower. They are another Texas wildflower that you will find in spring time popping up everywhere. We love the way the pedals drape down to give the cone center all the attention. This wildflower is a member of the aster family.

Sunset at the Bluebonnet Farm House

Sunset at the Bluebonnet Farm House - Ok we came here a few times over the last several weeks, but we were trying to capture a sunset and found we liked quite a few. This captures a good field of flowers along with a sunset as it went down and lit up the sky with this orange glow over the farm house and bluebonnets with a sprinkling of poppies. Since the last several year had not been good at this location when we saw how great the bluebonnets look this year in 2023 we had to come back and capture a sunset from this in multiple angles. Many refer to this old abandon house as the Marble Falls Bluebonnet Farm House, the bluebonnet house, the bluebonnet farmhouse or even the stone bluebonnet farmhouse, its all good no matter what you call it. When bluebonnet season gets here every year people ask about it because for many years the bluebonnets here did not come up or were mow by the previous owner so lucky for us the previous owner sold and the new owner does't seem to mind all the attention and they have come back. The new owner is grazing his cattle in this field so from time to time you will see cows, but don't worry they don't eat bluebonnets. It is wonderful they didn't sell to some one wanting to put in another gas station. The field of bluebonnets have come back the best in years with just a few prickly pear poppies sprinkled in to make for a great image. We have been capturing bluebonnet image from here for years so check out our collections from the bluebonnet farm house in Marble Falls taken over the years.

Tree Limbs Frame the Bluebonnet Farmhouse

Tree Limbs Frame the Bluebonnet Farmhouse - Well surprise, surprise the bluebonnet house in Marble Falls had a bumper crop of bluebonnets this year. Many call this the Marble Falls Bluebonnet house and some just call it the bluebonnet farm house or bluebonnet house, well whatever you call it a photographers dream. People come from all over to capture it. We capture this view right after sunset with some colors over the bluebonnet house from the street view which shows a different side and used the tree limbs to frame the farmhouse with some prickly pear cactus and a colorful sky from sunset. We decided since you never know when this could end up with a gas station on it we better get several angles so we took lot of different views. To begin with we thought this was never going to happen ever again! We had gone by for the last three or four years and the bluebonnets did not look good they were few bluebonnets and they were weedy with way too many poppies so we skipped it. The previous owner did not care for the all the people it attracted because many trespassed so he mowed them down and used other methods to surpress their growth, but this year they looked like they looked years ago. I guess the new owner is going to allow this to continue to happen, as they looked great. People come from all over to take photos of this old abandon farmhouse that is now mostly used for his cattle. Possibly since the bluebonnets came out early this year they were able to beat the grasses and poppies for some of the best field in years. The story I have heard about this old stone farmhouse was that it was built in 1853 by Logan Vandeveer using lime stone which was unusual at that time per the deed in the area that it was registered under and was sold later on and is what has allowed it to be still standing today. The roof and other parts are starting to deteriate and fall in but it doesn't deter us from photographing, it just adds to the charm of this wonderful old stone farm house in the Texas Hill Country.

Texas River Bluebonnets after Sunset

Texas River Bluebonnets after Sunset - Another good year for bluebonnets along the colorado river at this county park at dusk. This is Muleshoe Bend Park and we had another good year of Texas bluebonnets along the river edge even though the water is way down it was a good capture of this large field of bluebonnets for 2023. We have been taking photo of the bluebonnets for close to ten years here and the best years are when the water is down. Once the waters return to the colorodo river well the bluebonnets are slim to none at that point. We love to show the water with the blue bonnets so made at least a few captures showing the river or as many call it the lake not actually a lake but you can call it what you want. Texas hill country bluebonnet are special to a lot of people and they come here in droves to see the flowers from across the USA. It almost becomes a little crazy during wildflower season. Muleshoe Bend Park sit along the colorado river partly in Travis county and the other part in Burnet county it is a good size park with almost half of the park having wildflowers. The colorado river flows into the pedernales river from here then into Lake Travis on its way downstream to the gulf. This years crop of bluebonnet was earlier than most years some speculate because the weather is warmer and we had enough rain in the fall they show up early this year. Normally or at least in the past you do not see bluebonnets here till right around Easter but not this year.

Texas Bluebonnet Trail Landscape

Texas Bluebonnet Trail Landscape - Another capture of Texas bluebonnets wildflowers along the trail in Ennis Texas along the iconic sugar ridge road. We went up for there before the bluebonnet festival they have every April. It was already busy with cars line up along the roads everywhere. It certainly was a pretty landscape with the bluebonnet wildflowers, blue sky along the creek with a couple of swans and the Texas flag waving in the background at this Texas ranch with a nice field of bluebonnet wildflowers. This scene created this lovely landscape image of one of the most photograph area of Ennis. Every April they have what they call the bluebonnet trail where people from all over come to take photos, paint them or whatever. This was not one of the super bloom years, but it was moderate for bluebonnets and other wildflowers and we got some nice shots. The last time we came a couple of years ago we didn't even take any pictures so we were glad they had some decent field of bluebonnets to capture this time. You never know what or when it will good year for wildflowers you just have to go check it out.

Curious Herd of Cattle in Bluebonnets

Curious Herd of Cattle in Bluebonnets - A curious herd of cattle turned and look my way looking back through the bobwire as they were all standing in the wildflowers. It seldom cows will look at you for any lengh of time but they seem curious about what I had in my hand. One calf came running up but stop just short of getting to the fence and the plus to it was a nice field of bluebonnets in the field they were in so my luck. Of course Tod was talking to them as if they speak the same language maybe they do. These are the sandie bluebonnets with some pink wildflowers which makes for a good day while traveling the back roads in Washington county and Austin county.
