Photo Blog: First Light - Lake Travis Marina Pano 0718

First Light - Lake Travis Marina Pano - We captured the sunrise first light over this marina on Lake Travis outside of Austin Texas. The water was perfectly still and just as the sky begins to light up with these wonderful color of reds, orange, pinks, deep blues and violets it allow just enough light to silouette these sailboats. It is seldom that the water is this still and the early dawn capture of this marina was a success. We were able to capture the sailboats all lined up with their mast reflecting in the calm waters of Lake Travis. Lake Travis is about a thirty minute drive from downtown Austin of course it depends on what time of day you might head out this way it could be up to an hour and half at peak traffic times. The Austin area has been steadly growning at a record pace for some time so it is not common to be able to capture any place that is not full of people and boats coming and going. Thats why early morning is the perfect time here, yet where we live on the lake it not possible to get this still waters, because the fishermen are speeding up and down the lake at breakneck speed to get to that favorite fishing hole long before the sun comes up.

Austin Waterfront Skyline in Fall

Austin Waterfront Skyline in Fall - We captured this Austin skyline from the waterfront in the early morning hours with great reflections in the water and fall colors in the cypress trees. Lady Bird Lake was relativity calm with only a few rowers coming through from time to time in the early morning like the one in this scene. The sun was hitting the building just about perfect and creating some nice reflections back into the calm waters along the shoreline of lake Lady Bird or town lake as many still call it. This capture was taken in front of the unique Google building and the second tallest building in Austin the Independent or Jenga Tower along with many others high rise building. Austin is a very active place and this calm doesn't last long so you have to be prepare to capture the scene fast.
