Historic Gruene Texas which is an town created back in the 1878 for German immigrants who were mostly cotton farmers. Ernst Gruene and family created the building block of the town with a gristmill, a general store and a saloon, dance hall and community center at Gruene Hall for the immigrants to gather. After Ernst Gruene died in the early 1920s and the cotton crops were destroy for serveral years by insects the people abandon the town. It sat vacant as a ghost town until the early 1970 when it was rediscovered and brought back to life from a group of people working together. Since then it has become one of the top destination sites for toursit. Now it is mostly a tourist destination with various lodging, bed and breaksfast along the Guadalupe River in New Braunsfels.
