Port Aransas, or Port A as we like to call it, is a small community of fishermen and vacation homes along Mustang Island just north of Corpus Christi Texas. The most popular fishing pier is the Horace Caldwell Pier which runs out over 1200 feet into the gulf of Mexico. The central Texas coast line runs through three community's from Corpus Christi to Port A and into Rockport Fulton all within about thirty minutes drive apart. Many hurricanes have come through the area over time with the latest being Harvey which did some real damage to the area but it has since been mostly rebuilt. Also there are plenty of beaches along this stretch to explore such as Mustang island State Park beach, and the North Padre Island National Seashore. North of Port Aransas is a small community called Rockport which was name after a rock wall that runs along the gulf of Mexico. Rockport/Fulton are blended into one area is known for it clean beaches, fishing, shrimpers, and some great seafood restaurants and shopping. Rockport Beach Park is a nice clean place to visit with picnic huts, and thatch palapas on the beach which they comb to clean up litter and keep the beach sand clean. They also have a kid playground and other amenities for familys to enjoy. Tourist flock to this area every year for the bird watching as both Port Aransas and Rockport offer bird watching and dolphin cruises. there are also many bird watching areas. There are local sea birds like the sea gulls, pelicans, great blue herons, roseta spoonbills, great egrets,ibiis, along with the whooping cranes who come here during the winter migration. There is even a whooping crane festival to celebrate the event.
One of the iconic locations of Port Aransas is Horace Caldwell Pier, a frequently photographed fishing bridge that stretches 1200 feet out into the surf, allowing anglers to reach the fertile fishing waters.
