Austin Thirst Tree BW

Austin Thirst Tree BW - The THIRST art installation featuring a 38-foot tall drought-killed tree anchored in the center of the Lady Bird Lake in Austin. It sat between the pedestrian bridge and Lamar bridge over town lake in 2013. We pulled this back out because it is relevant today with the on going drought and heat wave in 2022 of this art project called THIRST which memorializes the loss of the over 500 million trees that died in Texas droughts between 2011-2013! This years drought will likely kill many more trees in 2022-23 as we are having even worse temperatures. Again we see the damage that is occurring because of climate change not just in Texas but across the globe. We want to acknowledge the THIRST art project and it players which was a subject of a 2013 PBS Arts in Context documentary, and reviewed by The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Climate Progress, Public Art Review, and Art Works Blog at the National Endowment of the Arts. THIRST was a collaboration between Women and Their Work and Beili Liu (lead visual artist), Norma Yancey and Emily Little (architects) and Cassie Bergstrom (landscape architect). THIRST was on display in Austin Texas town lake from September 28th to December 16th, 2013.
