Davis Mountain Overlook BW Pano - Davis Mountain State Park Pano in black and white of the rock shelter overlook at sunset.  This old rock building was built as a place to rest up after a day of working the area and has a nice view over the desert and mountain landscape. This Black and white Texas landscape in the Davis Mountain with this rock shelter and scenic view.  This old rock building was built as a place to rest up after a day of working the area and has a nice view over the desert and mountain landscape in Fort Davis. This is one of the highest view you can get without doing a lot of climbing so it was perfect for us.  Just another great Texas landscape in the Davis Mountains at sunset. The Davis Mountain state park is a 2,709-acre area which is located in the Davis Mountains.  The closest town is Fort Davis, Texas. The park elevation is between 5,000 and 6,000 ft above sea level. The original portion of the park was deeded to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department by a local family. Original improvements were accomplished by the Civilian Conservation Corps or CCC in 1933 and the park was opened to the public around 1938. Campground facilities were added in 1967. The trails and rock overlook building was built and then they added picnic tables and other facilities later on. Photo © copyright by Bee Creek Photography - Tod Grubbs / Cynthia Hestand.
