Galvez Hotel on Galveston Island Pano

Galvez Hotel on Galveston Island Pano - The Galvez hotel was built in 1911 a few year after the sea wall was added after the hurricane of 1900 which devastated the island. They did have another hurricane in 1915 but the damage was much less due to the addition of the sea wall. The Galvez hotel is a Galveston landmark and a major destination for the city in this two to one panorama. The Galvez was added to the list of Historic Hotels of America in 1994 and remains an elegant, vibrant destination for travelers from around the world. The hotel was purchased by W.L. Moody, Jr. in 1940, it would serve as a five-star living and working facility of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Following a two-year period during which rooms were not rented to tourists, the hotel re-emerged as a hub for the gambling industry that flourished on the island in the 1940s through the mid ‘50s. Many important people such as LBJ, Rosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower stay at the Galvez along with many celeberties such Jimmy Stewart, Frank Sinatra, and Howard Hughes. The hotel and the city of Galveston are both named for American Revolutionary War hero Bernardo de Galvez. Galvez who lived from 1746 to 1786, never came to the island he was given an honory citizenship after he led Spanish forces against Britain. In the past the Galvez Hotel was referred to as the “Queen of the Gulf.” This a two to one panorama inorder to see the whole hotel.
