Pelican King - We name this the Pelican King because his stoic pose on top of the post with the no wake zone sign which just says it all. The brown pelicans are a comical bird with their over size beaks, long necks and large bodies who can't help but love them. We did a photo-painting to enhance him as the enforcer of the sign as the pelican king. If only in our fantasy we made him the pelican king over the turquoise blue green waters with these wonderful sky as he deserved a few enhancements meant for the king. This was taken along the coastal bay of Corpus Christi Texas, part of the Padre Island National Seashore. Anytime we go to the coast we look for the brown pelicans. The brown pelicans as a group fly over the waters in a V formation just like a squardrone of jet fighters so it easy to give them the enforcer in our imaginations. This bird almost went extinct between 1950's and 1970's because of use of the pesiticide DDT. They banned the use of DDT and some other pesticides that were harming birds and they returned to normal numbers after about thirty or forty years and were taken off the endangered species. We love to watch pelicans fish as they dive from great heights into the water where the stun the fish near the surface and scoop up the fish into their oversize pouch for a fish dinner. Gallery quality Canvas wraps are printed on a 400gsm semi-gloss white poly-cotton blend, specifically designed for the high-end fine art and photography markets. The canvas is then wrapped on a 1.5" stretcher framed and will have a mirrored edge. The gallery wrap arrives at your doorstep ready to hang.
