Santa Elena Canyon Sunrise 2 - Captured another great west Texas sunrise just before the sun pop over the nearby mountains from this vantage point in Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park. We arrived before sunrise and it rewarded me with these beautiful colorful clouds over the west texas Rio Grande landscape from this vantage point in the Santa Elena Canyon. In this image you can see the colorful clouds through the octillo and prickly pear catus growing on the steep cliff of the canyon walls of this wonderful Texas landscape. You can see the Santa Elena Canyon from a pretty good distance in the park and it is one of the most impressive in Big Bend National Park. The Rio Grande changes direction abruptly after flowing beneath the Sierra Ponce cliffs for several miles heading west, cutting through the mountains via a deep in the canyons through the narrow gorge through the landscape. This area of Big Bend has national significance as the largest protected area of Chihuahuan Desert topography and ecology in the United States. From this vantage point in the Santa Elena Canyon the sky lit up with colors over the river and distant landscape in the park. The Santa Elena Canyon are at the end of the Ross-Maxwell scenic drive as you come closer to the canyon you will be awestruck by their size. There are places to see the Santa Elena canyon from a scenic overlook without walking and if you want to get up closer without a serious hike you can walk the short distance to the mounth of the canyon where the canyon and river emerge at the trail head is takes maybe five minutes and is not a difficult of a walk. For those more physically inclined, it is also not to difficult to climb up to the cliffs above for some stunning views. Just walking into the canyon as the cliffs tower around you and the river flows through is one of those moments to remember. Gallery quality Canvas wraps are printed on a 400gsm semi-gloss white poly-cotton blend, specifically designed for the high-end fine art and photography markets.
