Sunflower and Bee

Sunflower and Bee - A bee flying into the disk of a giant sunflower is fixing to dine on some nectar of the flower. This bee was busy in this sunflower as we captured him enjoying the nectar from the head of the flower. Bees and other insect enjoy the nectar from sunflower and other flowers in plant other plants while they do that they spread the pollen from plant to plant. The giant sunflowers are some of my favorite flowers with many already over six feet tall. The head or disk of the sunflower is full of small flowers or florets that grow in a spiral pattern and will eventually become full of sunflower seeds. Sunflowers are a great resource for bees and other pollinators. The Sunflower is an annual that will come up ever year. Sunflowers produce and excrete sweet sticky sap known as nectar that attracts hungry ants which keep down some other insects. All in all the sunflower is a hardy plant growing just a few inches to over six feet tall and one unique thing is the head of the flower will follow the sun. You can find sunflowers growing as a wildflower or as a crop from spring, summer, and fall in the Texas hill country. Helianthus giganteus, commonly known as giant sunflower or tall sunflower, is a herbaceous perennial plant in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).
