Sunset at Big Bend Window

Sunset at Big Bend Window - We had skipped coming up the basin the last two times so we decided to go up for visit to find a different angle and captured a cool sunset with some yuccas and prickly pear cactus close up looking at the window. This flora of this area is mostly shrubs, cactus, prickly pears, and other succulents along with octilla as it is dry and hot most of the time. The temperature start to go up in March through October so their is short time to be there for cooler weather. Big Bend National Park is located in southwest Texas and includes the entire Chisos mountain range and a large area of the Chihuahuan Desert. It alway excites us when we come up to the Chisos Basin, this landmark site of the big bend window is probably the most photographed image from the park. Ths is typical Texas scenery with mountains and lot of shrubs, yuccas and cactus and it draw vistors from all over the USA. It has become a tourist destination as people come here to camp, hike, canoe the rio grande river, or take in the stars at night. This area is know for its dark skies so it draws a lot of star gazing. Also in Big Bend it has some of the larger mountains in Texas. This Texas landscape at big bend is pretty much a desert landscape with mountains. Mostly it is octillo cactus and creosote growning in the area. The Chisos Basin landscape is a little more diverse with a little more greenery at lower levels in the park. Big Bend National Park is about an eight hour drive for us to get here and once in the park it is quite a distance between areas, but it is worth it to see this wonderful mountain scenery and desert landscape located in our own state.
