The Road to Study Butte Terlinqua

The Road to Study Butte Terlinqua - We wanted to show the vastness of this area coming into Study Butte Terlinqua as the road seems to go on forever with desert and mountains in the distance. This mountain on the right at the bottom is where Study Butte got its name from, once you reach the other side there are many more mountains ranges to see. It can be an awesome site to see. Study Butte is a census-designated place in Brewster County, Texas, United States. The population was 233 at the 2010 census the population has dropped to 149 per the 2020 census. I am sure that once you live through a few summer here that you might decide to move on. The plus side to this area is that Study Butte is around 3.7 mile to the entrance to Big Bend National Park so it is convienent place to pick up supplies, gas up and or stay outside the park when it is full as it is at certain times of the year. Terlinqua is a quirky area with some very artsy people living in the area you can visit the Ghost Town where you can sleep in a teepee or rent some of the tiny homes in the area or stay at the many RV parks nearby and a few other options. It is long drive from central texas so we usually come in to Alpine and spend the night then drive the 78 miles to Terlinqua the next day. We have been coming here for over twenty years and alway see new things on each visit. Terlinqua was made famous for their Chili Cook off that continues to this day, but since it is in the summer we have not attended but I hear it is big event.
