Tom the Emu 2

Tom the Emu 2 - I name this boy Tom because he tried to steal my sunglasses. I worked with a guy for many years name Tom who was constantly up to no good. So the name seem to fit, he seem to be hanging around sizing me up to figure out how to get my a sunglasses at this wildlife park in the hill country. The emu is a flightless bird that lives in the wild in Australia. The Emu stands around 5.7 feet tall and weighs around 110 pounds, has strong legs and can run around 30-35 miles an hour and is the largest bird in Austrailia. Emus are found where ever there is abundant water sources. The Emu closest relative is the bigger Ostrich which lives in Africa. The emu diet consist of the concentrated part of the plants, fruits, flowers, insect, seeds, young shoots. Thet will also eat insects and small vertebrates when available. The male Emu sits on the nest for about 40 to 55 days til the chick hatch then they will stay with him for about six months till they join up with other emus of the same age and gender. Then they form a kind of gang of juveniles like today The family of emu is the Dromaiidae. There was a time in the Texas and elsewhere when many ranchers went into the emu ranching business, but it was short lived as emus or not docile easyily herdable animals. Also, when you try and gather their eggs they become quit agressive. Also they tended to get out of the fencing a lot, which did cause nightmare on the road, so I think there are only a few left in the business. At least out here. I used the background to create a bokeh. Photo © copyright by Bee Creek Photography - Tod Grubbs / Cynthia Hestand.

The gallery wrap arrives at your doorstep ready to hang. After an order is submitted, the canvas usually arrives within 5-6 business days.
