White Pelican Duo Vertical

White Pelican Duo Vertical - Twenty years ago we started out photographing birds, so anytime we see a good set up like this we go for it. The white pelicans were moving slowiy through the water which gave us a nice reflection in the blue water this morning. We were thrilled to see the white pelicans at the Texas coast again as in the past we have missed them today we dropped by one of the birding areas and their they were in the inland waterway. They don't hang out at the same spots so it can be a crap shoot as to where they might be. Port A has several birding areas where you can see quite a few birds year round. There is also a whooping crane festival every year in February where everyone goes bird crazy! We have come here many times and not seen any cranes in Port A, but in the surrounding area, but we got lucky today on the white pelicans. One of the largest North American birds, the American White Pelican is majestic in the air. The birds are regonizeable by the black and white wings as they fly and their overly large pink to orange beaks. They use their hugh bills to scooped fish out of the water. Groups of American White Pelicans many times work together to herd fish into the shallows for easy feeding. I love to watch pelicans fly as they fly in formation as if there are fighter pilots and order must be maintained at all cost except when feeding of course. They are under conservation as they are no longer considered endangered from toxic pollution as was once the case which is great news for both the brown and the white pelicans.
