Cactus Flower

Cactus Flower - Beautiful yet prickly this macro flower on a barrel cactus was lovely site. This lovely red cactus flower was wonderully vibrants. The spines on the barrel cactus can give you a nasty prick if not careful as you can see behind keeping most animal away. Bees and bird will drink the nectar and spread the pollen to others. This is a desert plant that mostly grows in dry areas of the southwest usa. There are many varieties of barrel cactus that blooms in the spring and again in the fall so it is used in a lot of gardens. The indians ate the flowers of this plant. The cactus genus is called Ferocactus from the Latin word “ferox” meaning fierce, and the Greek word “kaktos” meaning thistle or you could call it the fierce cactus.
